Creating my Workspace // WeWork

It’s Thursday! Thursday is BY FAR my favorite day of the week… I just love it. I don’t know why, but Thursday’s vibe is just the best… you’re ALMOST done with the work week, but you still need to hustle… Friday is in the forecast and then the weekend. At the end of the workday on Thursday I’m just all like “Hell yeah… Thursday in tha HOUSE!!”

I know, I’m strange. I tell my students that Thursday is my favorite day of the week and they look at me like I’m crazy. I think it’s because in college Thursday was the start of the weekend, but I don’t tell them about Piano Man in Waco…

The Thursday hustle is real, though… and I like that last push to get things accomplished before the end of the workweek. I love getting all setup in my work space [whether at home or at school], turning on my music and getting in the zone. When I launched the blog, I knew I needed to create a work space for myself. Our little 1953 home didn’t provide me with the best space available, so I had to work with what I had. I decided to pick up a desk at Target and set it up in the corner of our kitchen/family room. It provides me with a space from which to run our home calendar, files, Beautycounter sales and the blog!

I had a small leather ottoman that we no longer had space for in the living room [a play space for baby B took its place], so I put it at my desk. I need all the space I can get, so it’s nice to be able to push it up under the desk and out of the way. I like the chocolate accents on the desk and beneath because it ties in the chocolate in our painting and the piano, making this space an extension of the room that is already there. I didn’t want my desk space to seem random and out of place. The handle on the desk drawer is very similar to the handles on the drawers in the kitchen, so it ties in together as nicely as it can.

I have a lot of stuff to organize, but I wanted it to be as clean and minimalistic as possible. I, of course, need my computer right in the center, but as you can see in the photos, the whole work space is centered around organization and the proper storage of all my information. I keep thank you notes right at the front where I can see them and am reminded to continue to express my gratitude for others. The stack to the right of my computer goes with me almost everywhere I go. It has my iPad, a padfolio, a small journal where I keep my macros count going and my Mom’s One Line A Day Journal.

Although my desk fits my needs, it’s evident that I could use a place to go and spread out… I wish SO BADLY that Dallas had a WeWork office space here! WeWork provides its members with shared office spaces all over the world and amazing perks at businesses all over! I have been all over their website TRYING to find a way that I could utilize their services, but I’ll have to wait until they open up a space in Dallas [this is a plea]! On the days where I’m buckling down and getting things done, it would be so nice to go to a place with other people who are doing the same, connect to a high speed WiFi, and get to work in a cool space surrounded by other worker bees. If you haven’t had a chance to check them out, go see if they have a coworking office space in your city!

How do you create your work space? What do you need around you to be the most productive, creative version of yourself? Creating a space you love really makes a difference! You can shop the items I love here:

Love your space! Beautiful and inspiring! While there’s no WeWork in Dallas, there is a place called The Mix. I’ve gone there a few times and love the vibe and crowd. I’m currently talking with them about setting up childcare 1 day a week there so WAHMs and parent entrepreneurs have a way to get some work done without having to worry about childcare.
