Essential Oils for Romance // 8 Ways to Keep the Fire Burning

What the world needs now, is love sweet love! I’m singing this song today in preparation for Valentines Day! I can’t believe it’s tomorrow!

V-Day is such a fun holiday, but since Baby B has come into the world, poor F has totally gotten the Valentine’s Day shaft… I find myself far more interested in buying fun Valentine’s treats and gifts for our little boy and less interested in going on a date night during this holiday. I think it’s because if I’m celebrating love, the best type of love I feel in my world is for my two boys, and since we became a family, our love has shifted more from romantic to familiar. Now, before you jump to conclusions, my husband and i are still romantic and go on dates and enjoy each other’s company in romantic ways, but the love inside of a marriage that I’ve found has been the most intimate and wonderful has been the love I’ve come to experience as he’s become the father of my child… So, when Valentine’s Day comes along, it’s THAT love that I find myself inclined to celebrate and the love we have together for our child… far more than the mushy gushy romantic love that got us here in the first place and that we still have, but have to work to bring it out [hello, parenthood]. This year, our schedules only permit a family Valentine’s celebration, so F and I will have to plan a date night later. But enough about us…

It’s no secret that I love essential oils. I love that each fragrance can serve a purpose in life from healing to relaxation to… yes, you guessed it when you clicked on this title… romance. There are some specifically-used essential oils for romance that bring out feelings of sensuality and love. Sandalwood is said to clear the mind and calm the emotions to help place your relationship front and center. Rose is said to increase the sex drive [is that why Roses are a husband’s go-to?] and Ylang Ylang and Jasmine are said to be aphrodisiacs! Who knew? Luckily, they are some of the more fragrant smells out there. The following is a list of essential oils for romance:

Rose
Jasmine
Yang Ylang
Geranium
Sandalwood
Rosewood
Cistus
Cedar wood
Clary Sage
Vanilla

When it comes to using essential oils, I choose to use oils from NOW Foods. They source the best oils and quality is key for them. I trust everything from this company, which is why I endorse them whole-heartedly and I use their products in my home!

So, how can you use these oils to create and cultivate a romantic environment for your spouse? Here are 3 ways, incorporating 8 different oil blends, to make Valentine’s Day special using aromatherapy!

Set the Mood for your Spouse with Smells:

Using an essential oil diffuser not only makes your home smell great [it’s a non-toxic alternative to candles], it’s a great way to prep your home for a special date night at home this Valentine’s Day. Here are 2 blends that will cultivate romance and make your home smell amazing!

The Love Shack
8 drops of Rose
3 drops of Ylang Ylang
2 drops of Clary Sage
1 drop of Nutmeg
5 drops of Orange

Honey, I’m Home!
1 drop of Grapefruit
2 drops of Clary Sage
3 drops of Frankincense
1 drop of Myrrh
1 drop of Sandalwood
1 drop of Cinnamon

Draw up a Romantic Bath for your Spouse:

Make Valentine’s Day special by drawing up a romantic and relaxing bath using these essential oils for romance. These bath blends bring together the most sensual oils that will keep the fire burning! Take 2 Tablespoons of Espom salt and add the oils to the salt, let them sit for about 5 minutes, then add them to a hot bath.
[To make the bath moisturizing, too, pour some jojoba oil directly into the water and make sure you rub the oil [which will smell amazing] into your skin as you bathe. Be careful, though! This will make you very slippery!]

Romantic Bath Blends:

Romantic Bath
2 drops of Rose
3 drops of Ylang Ylang

Citrus Love Bath
3 drops of Ylang Ylang
4 drops of Grapefruit

I Love You Bath
2 drops of Ylang Ylang
3 drops of Patchouli
1 drop of Geranium
2 drops of Clary Sage

Give your Spouse a Massage:

Want to treat your spouse to a spa treatment, but you’re on a budget? This is a great way to incorporate a unique experience without breaking the bank. Just blend these essential oils for romance with Jojoba oil and there you have it! Giving a massage is a great way to say “I love you” and to serve your spouse. I love these blends because they’re non-toxic and good for the skin! Win, win, WIN!

Romantic Massage Oil Blends:

For Him Massage Oil
2 ounces of Jojoba Oil
12 drops of Cedarwood
8 drops of Clary Sage
20 drops of Ylang Ylang
8 drops of Patchouli

Will You Accept This Rose? Massage Oil
2 ounces of Jojoba Oil
14 drops of Rose
12 drops of Jasmine
12 drops of Frankincense

For Her Massage Oil
2 ounces of Jojoba Oil
10 drops of Rose
2 drops of Ylang Ylang
8 drops of Lemon
2 drops of Frankincense

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with the ones you love most! [“ones” is plural for me and I’m sure for any and all of you who have little babies!]
