17 Oct Girl’s Camping Trip // More like ‘GLAMPING’
Hello! If you follow me on Instagram, you saw on my Insta-stories [bye, Snapchat… I can’t keep up with all the apps…] that I spent this past weekend on a camping…ehem… GLAMPING trip with some of my favorite girls from Dallas Fitness Ambassadors! We said “Hello” to cooler temps by stepping [and sleeping] outside and enjoying some [much-needed] time unplugged and away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Y’all, I love camping. That probably surprises you, but I do. And this girls-only camping trip, more like GLAMPING trip, allowed me to take some time away and enjoy my friends and a little bit of nature. Don’t get me wrong, though… after 2 nights, I was READY to get back to my boys and take a hot shower! Here’s a recap of our glamp-out!
First Things First
On Friday after work, we all drove out to The Best Day Ever Ranch just North of McKinney [so about an hour away, without traffic] and immediately headed to the campsite! The head of the ranch had already set us up with brand new, very clean tents and state-of-the-art air mattresses [#blessed] so we did have anything to set up, but first things first… we definitely wanted to make our campsite feel like home as much as possible. A cold front had come in that day, so I was so thankful that we had all those blankets and pillows to snuggle up with!
Once our tents were set up, Ashley [who is actually a survivalist-in-training!] started our fire from scratch and we got the chili on the fire as fast as possible! I pre-made [as in, I poured all the ingredients for the chili into my dutch oven] before we even left for the ranch, which was actually so wonderful because I was thankful to have already opened, poured and tossed out the cans at home and not out in nature! We had one vegetarian so I browned the meat separately and then added it in once she got her share of the chili, pre-meat. We were all so tired from the work-week that we called it a night pretty early. PLUS, it was cold! Like… REALLY COLD. We made some hot chocolate and went to sleep! I slept pretty well considering I was outside! I loved my sleeping bag from Target. You can buy it, along with all of this glamp-site stuff here:
I was UP AND AT ‘EM bright and early at 6:30 with the sun [mostly because I was freezing my tail off!] and I had one thing on my mind… COFFEE. I brought my kettle and started a new fire [with lighter fluid, I might add…] and got that water boiling. When it was done, my french press was ready to go. I needed a little caffeine to start my day. Once I had my coffee, I looked around and realized how BEAUTIFUL this place was in the morning light. The water was steaming in the newly-cold air and the sunrise was amazing!
Stephanie made breakfast tacos, so we tossed them on the fire and enjoyed some amazing food [a few hours later we had mimosas, too! Like I said… glamping]. All of our food for the weekend was provided by Sprouts, PRAISE THE LORD! I’m so glad they wanted to help us stay healthy on our camping trip without breaking the bank! Everything we got there was absolutely perfect! Plus, it was so easy navigating the store with Mai Lyn before we left town!
The Best Day Ever Ranch has so many things to do, so we decided to step out and explore. We grabbed our water bottles and some of our favorite jerky from Golden Island [the Sriracha flavor is AMAZING!] and headed out for our hike! The jerky was particularly helpful when we were still on our hike around the ranch when lunch-time arrived. Mai Lyn just took herself a seat and enjoyed the jerky! Ashley and I tried to make our hike a little more crossfitty, but then we all decided to just have fun, so we climbed on top of a bail of hay and had ourselves a dance party! We made sandwiches for lunch and spent the late afternoon hours hanging out together at the campsite!
There was a wedding there that weekend [HOW BEAUTIFUL!] so we left the main part of the ranch and headed back to our campsite to prep for dinner. Our girl, Mai Lyn, decided to try paddle boarding and she did GREAT! She made it back to the dock without falling in… almost. her exit strategy fell through and so did she! We all got a good laugh!
Girl’s Night Out
We decided to kick the night off with some drinks! I made Moscow Mules and Ashley made sangria! The fruits brought the bees out but not for long. We got our fire going again and started making fajitas for dinner! After dinner? S’mores, of course [and more hot chocolate]! We played ‘Never Have I Ever’ and told stories and giggled around the campfire until it was time to go to sleep!
We were all up EARLY on Sunday and knew we had a ton of stuff to do to prepare for the week! Thankfully, the Best Day Ever Ranch was only an hour away so we were all home nice and early to unpack, clean everything and prep for the week!
I had the best time with my girls! Camping… I mean, GLAMPING, was just what I needed! You can read about the other girls’ experiences here:
