Halloween is such a funny holiday. Some halloween get-togethers are kid-friendly, others are gory and scary, others are just plain… gross. I love Halloween, but I very rarely see it done beautifully… I wanted to throw a Halloween party that catered both to children and their parents. I wanted this to be something that the entire family could attend and enjoy before heading out to trick-or-treat in our neighborhood! My idea was for this party to be chic and gothic, but also fun and age-appropriate. How do you bring both sides of halloween together without it being hokey or inconsistent?

There’s no way I could do what I dreamed by myself. I called up my favorite party girls and we all worked together to create a party that was both beautiful and fun for everyone! Raquel from RLove Florals designed some gorgeous, gothic centerpieces. Elisabeth from Silver Lining Events Co. styled the party PERFECTLY by curating a gothic-chic adults table and a Halloween fun decor for the kids! She had some of my favorite decor pieces from PotteryBarn Kids to work with and added her own creative flair… and she did it all while 37 weeks pregnant! Kelly with Pink Champagne Paper Co. created our beautiful invitations and the custom ‘drink me’ tags that really set the tone for the event from the get-go! Tram-Anh from Charmant Sweets made some awesome Halloween treats that made for the best party favors! And, of course, Kristen from Kristen Dee Photography was there to capture it all!

When coming up with the vision, I decided to begin with the food and go from there. My entire inspiration for the halloween party was the ‘poison’ candied apples in black, navy and deep red. I decided that the adult table would be a gothic setting, complete with candles and spooky ‘poison’ cocktails and food that parents would love. I made ‘Mummified’ Jalapeño Poppers, a Halloween Chex Mix and Sweet and Spicy Wasabi Deviled Eggs. For the Halloween sweet tooth, I made a Halloween Candy Bark and Sugar Skulls made from Devil’s Food Cake. Over the past month, I infused vodka with cherries, blackberries and green apples. The day of the event, I poured the infused vodka into tiny viles and offered lime soda in a punch bowl filled with dry ice as a mixer. The parents could “Pick their poison” and pour it into a smoking soda for a fun, but not overpowering cocktail. (Parents still had to supervise trick-or-treating!) The food, the decor and the feel of the adult space was gothic, Haunted House-like, yet very chic.

The Kids Table at this halloween party is where it got fun! Elisabeth hung bats above the table and placed spiders in their webs to the seats and the colors in the room transitioned from deep reds, navy’s, purples and blacks to the fun, black, white and orange colors of a kid-friendly Halloween Party. Each child had a cup of macaroni and cheese disguised as a jack-o-lantern and their party favor, an individually-wrapped, handmade rice krispy treat made to look like candy corn from Charmant Sweets. The kids were able to enjoy the lime soda with the dry ice as well and, to make it fun, we froze gummy worms into ice cubes so that, as the ice melted, they had a fun and sweet surprise in the mad-scientist beakers they were drinking from!

Every costume and pieces of the decor for the party were from PotteryBarn Kids. As guests entered the house, they walked through a striped tent that made them feel like they were entering a fun house or another world. They were able to move the spider in the PBK Halloween Countdown Calendar to the 31st and eat by the light of glowing ghost flameless candles! PBK also gave the parents’ table a spooky feel with light up trees and flameless spider candles. The kids looked amazing dressed as a witch, a werewolf, a firefighter, superboy, a racer driver, a fairy princess, a giraffe and even a tiny baby elephant!
