30 Dec Looking Back on 2016 // A Whirlwind of a Year!
Y’all… tomorrow is the last day of 2016. That’s it. The year is over. I’m excited to see what 2017 brings… a wedding for my little sister, hopefully some great things to come with my new job, a new president, a trip to Europe, a beautiful gala benefitting Cherish Uganda and maybe we’ll start thinking about adding another little love to our family! But before I look ahead to 2017, first, I’m looking back on 2016, a whirlwind of a year, with gratitude… Here it is, our year in review!
January // Our year began with a bang! We spent the first few weeks planning our sweet boy’s first birthday party! Our friends and family gathered together to celebrate with us! B’s First Pow-Wow was a success and so much fun! We had a blast! I went back to school after Christmas break to the busiest semester I’ve ever had, but I verbally accepted a new job to start in June!
February // February came really fast this year with B’s birthday taking up most of my focus in January! I had a Galentine’s Day Party at Kit & Ace and spent most of the month chasing B around and pulling him off the things he was climbing [everything]. We don’t do much to celebrate Valentines Day… long story, but February was still a fun month for us!
March // March was SO MUCH FUN! We spent a week in Mexico during Spring Break with my family and then celebrated my best friend’s 30th birthday in Charleston! We celebrated F’s birthday, too! Easter was also in March, so we spent every weekend in a different place! It was a whirlwind, but so much fun!
April // We celebrated the 1st anniversary of the launch of the blog with a workout and party at CrossFit White Rock! It was so much fun! Things started ramping up for me as a teacher in charge of the class of 2016 at school. I was up at the school well into the evening most days planning and prepping for the Prom and Project Graduation!
May // May was absolutely INSANE. Between my grandfather’s 90th birthday weekend in Charlotte, Mother’s Day, my birthday, a friend’s wedding in Orlando and the prom, every single weekend was chalk-full of places to go and people to see. The prom was a huge success! I also published my first Bible Study, A Proverbs A Day in May, on the blog! I packed up my classroom and prepped to put on a 3 day carnival for my seniors and then we went to Orlando for Memorial Day weekend [where, of course, we spent a day at DisneyWorld]!
June // Graduation came and went and we were all of the sudden in the throws of summer! We went on a family trip out to The Montage in Laguna Beach, California, where we spent the most awesome week and celebrated Father’s Day. I started my new job and caught up on a TON of lost sleep!
July // July was crazy! I spent 5 days in Los Angeles with my girls from Dallas Fitness Ambassadors at the IDEA World Blogfest Conference. I flew directly from LA to Colorado, where B and I spent a week with my mom up in the mountains! It was on that trip that I felt like I just hit a wall and couldn’t get my energy back…
August // In August, I just felt, well… crummy. I just didn’t feel like myself. Given that, it was still a very good month! I was so happy to be working from home and my relationship with B was blooming from me being able to be a part of his daily routine again. We spent a lot of time watching the Olympics and then we went up to Colorado for a friend’s wedding and one last play in the summer mountains! I planned and executed this awesome Halloween Party Styled Shoot with some amazing girls, too, which was SO much fun!
September // It was my first September in a long time not to return to school and i was reaping the benefits of being at home with my little one. Football season started and we cheered on our Baylor Bears. I wrote out my opinions on the scandal that has hit my alma mater and, apparently, others agreed. It was my first post to go viral. We decided to update our family room and so we started operation Family Room Facelift and we took our furniture from drab to fab! We also visited the Texas State Fair! The month flew by and before we knew it, it was October.
October // I started the month off with a camping… I mean, Glamping trip with the Dallas Fitness Ambassadors! We had a blast! Still feeling crummy, I finally got back in with my doctors and was diagnosed with stage 3 adrenal fatigue. My auto-immune diseases had also come back with a vengeance. It was this month that, with the help of those doctors, things started turning around for me. I began taking supplements and changing my diet again and being mindful of taking time to rest. I started feeling like myself again. We celebrated my sister’s 21st birthday and dressed up for B’s 2nd Halloween!
November // In November, I was feeling so much better. In fact, I got back in the gym! I joined StudioHop for the month and enjoyed my time hopping from studio to studio! We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family here in Dallas, where we spent the long weekend casually enjoying each other’s company! After Thanksgiving, we celebrated my 10 year high school reunion, which was actually way more fun than I was expecting! I saw all the people I wanted to see and catch up with and I didn’t have to see the people I didn’t particularly want to have to see again [oh, high school!]. I had a wonderful time being with my close friends again!
December // December flew by faster than I could’ve ever imagined. The Christmas season arrived to a nation of people who were FAR more ready for it, and the joy it brings, than normal. The stress of the election was over and we were able to enjoy the season for what it was. I released my first ebook and launched a new logo for the site [the newly designed site is launching next week!] and I began to realize what I was capable of accomplishing! I started the month with a work trip to Nashville and ended it with a family trip to NYC.
Looking back on 2016, I have to say that the very best part of the entire year was watching my sweet little boy discover all the joy and magic of the Christmas season. He’s my whole world.
