12 Weeks Pregnant // Pregnancy Week by Week

You are 12 weeks pregnant!!!! EEEEEKKKKK!!!!! Holy cow! you made it three whole months! [okay, so technically your first trimester is officially over at week 14, but both this time and last, I couldn’t resist. Once I heard that precious heartbeat again at my 12 week appointment, it was out. MY SECRET IS OUT, Y’ALL, AND IT FEELS SO DANG GOOD.

It’s like I’ve been a con artist for 3 months, just lying to people – fake drinking at social gatherings, telling people that we’ll start trying for baby number 2 soon… blah blah blah – SORRY FOR LYING EVERYONE! I’M WITH CHILLLLLDDDDDDD.

Okay. I’m clearly pumped to get that off my chest.

12 Weeks Pregnant from the Doctor:

Nausea may be improving at this this time and therefore you may be able to tolerate your prenatal vitamin on a more consistent, daily basis. Gastrointestinal changes in pregnancy, combined with prenatal vitamin supplements, can bring about constipation complaints. Many prescription strength prenatal vitamins have a stool softener built into them to help prevent this issue. Ask your doctor about switching to one if you’re skipping your daily prenatal vitamin because you don’t want to deal with the hard stool side effects. If these vitamins are not covered by your insurance, over the counter stool softeners like Colace can be safely taken every day to combat constipation. Your doctor can provide more over the counter remedies. Natural approaches like drinking plenty of water is an easy way to prevent hard stools as well.

12 Weeks Pregnant from the Pregnant Lady:

Baby is the size of an apricot and I’ve never loved one so much [except when I was pregnant with little apricot B who now has made it clear that he will be unimpressed if it’s a baby brother. He only wants a “baby seestoh”] and I’m thrilled to share that love with everyone on the outside. This secret was getting really hard to keep, especially because there’s a full-fledged bump now.

Bumpin’

New this time around – I’ve got me a baby BUMP. This didn’t pop out until 17 weeks or so last time and here I am wearing oversized sweatshirts in the heat of Texas summer to keep people from realizing that I’m carrying more than just my weight. I get so hot in SoulCycle that I have to take my shirt off and last week this girl just STARED at me, trying to figure out if I was expecting or if i was really just that confident in my own skin. The answer is both, because I don’t care how thick I am, it’s hot in that studio and I’m not going to make it worse on myself just because others might judge the pudge.

Hips and Back Soreness

Not going to lie… sleeping is already getting a little more uncomfortable and my workouts come with some extra soreness after. Pregnancy will do that to you, but, once again, I remember this happening later in the pregnancy last time. I’ve been seeing a prenatal chiropractor and she has made all the difference in how I feel sleeping and throughout the day. Right now, I’m seeing her every other week, but I have a feeling that I’ll be upping that to weekly here soon. [I’m currently wondering if she can just move in with me for the last few weeks of the pregnancy – is that weird to ask?]

Revealing Your Secret – How We Announced Our Pregnancy

The last time I was pregnant, announcing the pregnancy meant just telling my friends and posting to Facebook. It was a huge deal for me and to see the likes and comments pop up made me so happy that so many loved ones were excited to celebrate with us!

This time, however, I had two announcements to make… one on social media and one on the blog! I had my friend, Kristen Dee, take some photos of my growing bump and family, and I put them into an announcement that was sent to my subscribers and posted to my Instagram and Facebook! The response has been filled with an overwhelming amount of excitement from family, friends and strangers as we embark upon this new journey. Here’s the blog post if you want to read it, and here’s the Instagram/Facebook post we announced with. We announced on Labor Day, so of course I had to make some sort of joke about labor!

Bask in the glory of that heartbeat, momma! If you announce this week, great. If not, don’t feel the pressure to do it right away. For me, it feels great to share our secret with the world! Remember to continue taking care of yourself! Rest, hydrate and celebrate! You’re growing a baby in there!
