28 Weeks Pregnant – Pregnancy Week by Week

Hey Momma, you are 28 weeks pregnant, which means that you have officially made it to the third trimester!! Congratulations! Your baby is the size of a coconut and and only getting bigger… and bigger… and bigger! You’re in the home stretch now and you’re about to see just why the third trimester is the most… uncomfortable, but definitely the most exciting!

28 Weeks Pregnant from the Doctor:

Welcome to the third trimester! The home stretch….and the home of stretch marks. Keeping the tension off your growing belly skin with a pregnancy belt can reduce your risk of stretch marks. Supporting your core when you go from lying down to sitting positions can help as well. Baby is also stretching and kicking more. An active baby is reassuring so if you notice any decreased movement for your baby, be sure to let your provider know right away.

28 Weeks Pregnant from the Pregnant Lady:

Woah, Nelly. We’re getting big, aren’t we? I’m definitely starting to feel the bigness manifest itself in ways I forgot about. For example. I can no longer park my SUV in the “compact car” spaces because I can’t just slip in and out of small spaces anymore… the belly has definitely grown to a point that I can’t just turn sideways to slide between chairs at a restaurant either… Bending over? Yeah… it requires that I widen my stance and bend my knees… legs get in the way when I try to just bend at my back… Turning over in bed? It used to be so easy! Now I grunt loud enough to wake up my husband. This whole big-belly thing, y’all. It’s happening… and it’s time to get used to the new normal! I mean, just look at how this belly has grown:

What are you feeling?

Shortness of Breath…

Well, if you’re anything like me, you’re noticing that you’re out of breath more often than you used to be. I have found myself huffing an puffing and even snorting to catch my breath again after simple things like walking uno a flight of stairs or rushing to get across the room to my toddler who somehow got ahold of the scissors before he cuts his hair… HOW DID HE GET TO THEM? The little ninja…

Itchy Belly….

This growing belly is no joke, y’all. And if you think it’s hard on your back, imagine what it’s doing to your skin! Between the stretching and the increased circulation [and if you’re lucky enough to spend your third trimester in the winter – still WAY better than the summer], the skin on your belly is probably crying out for some extra moisture about now! If you’re scratching away, like I am, grab some cocoa butter or add some jojoba oil to your lotion or bath water [just be EXTRA careful when getting in and out of the tub if you add any oil to the water!]


Remember our buzz word from last week, relaxin? Well, that’s exactly what it’s doing.. relaxin’ your ligaments, tendons and…. intestines. That’s right. This fabulous chemical relaxes your digestive tract, too, so going number two is probably not your most treasured pregnancy experience right now [or ever…]. All of this fun stuff means that you may start to experience the side effects that come with constipation… hemorrhoids are pretty standard at this point in pregnancy and can get pretty uncomfortable. Try to up your fiber intake and drink lots and lots of water!

Pregnancy Buzz Word – Birth Classes

Now that you’re in the home stretch, now is the time to get serious about thinking about your labor and delivery. Chances are, especially if this is your first pregnancy, you don’t know what to expect when that day comes and neither does your husband. Your doctor or midwife will have information on birth classes for you to take and I highly recommend it. Labor and delivery can be a scary thing, so being prepared for what to expect, plus knowing what is really happening inside your body, can be empowering and helpful in alleviating anxiety surrounding the entire birth experience. It’s worth signing up for a class and attending them together!

How to Survive this week:

Only 12 weeks left! You’re here, momma, and in the final stretch! The next three months will simultaneously fly by and be the slowest months of your life! Your precious bundle is packing on fat and preparing for life outside your belly… and so are you! Be prepared for your belly to grow almost an inch every 2-3 weeks and for an intense need to clean… everything… in… sight… Welcome to the third trimester!
