4 Ways to Celebrate Yourself (and Why you Should)

In this day and age, it is easy to get caught up in what’s around us. When we do this, we lose sight of ourselves and it becomes more difficult than ever to be content with what we have. The next time you find yourself planning a birthday party for a coworker you hardly know, think about the last time you celebrated yourself.  

With the amount of stress and pressure we put on ourselves daily, we undoubtedly deserve to be celebrated, too. This can come in the form of a miniature party or just a spa day by yourself, just as long as you’re toasting to yourself. Below, we’ve listed some of the best (and easiest) ways to celebrate the inspiring person you are.

Take the Day Off

We promise, you have time. Though taking a day off may sometimes sound impossible depending on your hectic schedule, experiencing some downtime is crucial for your mental health. Every day, we push ourselves so much that we often forget to give ourselves a break, too. When we neglect our well-being, feeling energized and motivated is tougher than ever.

Even if you can’t take the entire day off, setting some time aside for just yourself can be incredibly beneficial. When we give our minds and bodies a break, we are able to take a deep breath and truly give ourselves the chance to rest and recharge. Sometimes, just a 20-minute nap can give us the rejuvenation we need to tackle the rest of the day, so you should never feel guilty for taking some time off: it is the mini celebration we all deserve.

Indulge a Little (Or a Lot)

Indulging in the activities you love, foods you enjoy, or movies that give you butterflies are great ways to celebrate who you are and make you feel your absolute best. Nothing cheers us up like doing what we love, so try making a conscious effort to do something that makes you happy each day. Whether it be big or small, indulging occasionally reminds ourselves that we are worth it and we should be spoiled just as much as anyone else.

Get a scoop of your favorite ice cream, order that jacket you’ve been eyeing, or give yourself five minutes of extra sleep–you deserve it.


 As we get wrapped up in our own chaotic worlds, neglecting to take care of ourselves becomes quite easy, especially when we’re taking care of others. But, as we touched on, it is nearly impossible to properly take care of others if you cannot do it for yourself. This is exactly why self-care is so crucial.

Practicing self-care means taking the time to remember your own needs along with the needs of others. If you’re making someone else lunch, don’t forget to give yourself nutrients, too. If you haven’t worked out in a while, take a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a step back. We have the ability to take care of ourselves, we just so often ignore them. Be kind to yourself, and life will be kind back.

Enjoy Your Own Company

One of the best and easiest ways to celebrate who you are is simply by loving yourself. Being able to enjoy your own company isn’t something that everybody can do, but this is because not enough people try. We rely so much on those around us, that when we are alone, we simply do not know how to act. What we must realize, though, is that our company is just as good as someone else’s.

Spending time with yourself is a great way of getting to know yourself, your strengths, and what to improve on. If we are able to develop this sort of relationship, accomplishing tasks on our own becomes second nature, and independence is at the forefront. Before we know it, we can find celebrations in even the littlest things we do.
