18 May Perfect Peace
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” – Isaiah 26:3
Our thoughts are powerful.
God gave us minds capable of far more than we realize. Did you know that studies have shown that our thoughts have the power to heal our bodies? The scientific and medical communities are studying (and proving) more and more the impacts our thoughts have on your physical bodies. In fact, our thoughts are so powerful, they’ve become one of the enemy’s greatest tools to bring us down.
In the name of progression and betterment, the enemy shifts our idea of who God says we are with “I’m not enough’s” and “I should’s”…
In the name of self-protection, the enemy creates doubt and questions against who God says He is with worries, anxiety, and fear…
In the name of curiosity and a thirst for understanding, the enemy fogs our ability to see the difference between right and wrong through temptations and “I’m not of this world, but I’m living in it…” thoughts.
And just as positively powerful they are, our thoughts can bring us down and even make our physical bodies sick.
Anxiety and stress, guilt and shame, self doubt and fear – they all manifest themselves in inflammation in our bodies, negatively affecting our physical health. It’s this reason that I firmly believe that our relationships with God, others and ourselves are essential to our overall wellness.
So, today I ask you, are your thoughts pushing you towards peace? Or are you allowing the enemy to use your mind to take away the gift of peace that is rightfully yours through Jesus? You see, God promises His perfect peace to those whose thoughts are fixed on Him.
Sometimes we need to take a step back and go “what have I been thinking about all day?” Maybe the answer to that question is the cause behind your short temper, bellyache, fatigue, racing heart, inability to sleep, or your overall crummy day…
When you realize just how powerful your God-given mind is and shift your focus to Him, watch how it changes everything… even your physical health.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:2
Show me what you focus on most and I’ll show you where you’re headed. If we’re heaven-bound, our thoughts, focus, goals and yearnings must be heaven-bound too. When we allow worldly worries and mindsets to interfere, we lose track of the bigger picture and give the enemy control over everything we touch. This is a process that requires mindful work to constantly reset and redshift our focus – literally, it may have to happen multiple times a day – but the end process inevitably leads to peace and joy that surpass all human understanding.
