11 Nov Restoring your Factory Settings
I recently just upgraded my iPhone – when I was ready to trade my old one in for the new one, I had to erase everything off of the phone and then hand it over to the man at the store. I’ve done this before – always with a bit of fear that something (or everything) wont transfer over – like the big, internet cloud will have a leak and my data will pour out like rain, never to be found again…
Then, they hand me the new phone, and the first thing I do is update my it to fit my customization preferences – the ringtone, the backgrounds, the organization of my apps… I have a very special way that I like my phone to look, feel and sound. BUT, if you go into “settings”, you can find a button that says ‘Restore Factory Settings’. This button takes you back to the default way the phone was designed and created before an outsider came in and added all the bells and whistles.
I’m like an iPhone… we all are. You see, sometimes I start to doubt my purpose or I start to live in fear, or I let anxiety or pressure from other people make my decisions for me… When this happens, I have stop, and turn to God to restore myself to my factory settings.
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but one of power, love, and discipline.” – 2nd Timothy 1:7
You see, God says that He did not give us a spirit of fear. We simply weren’t created with a personality that flourishes on fear. Instead, He created us with power, love and discipline… those are our factory settings y’all! We were created by God, in His image and, as believers, we have the Holy Spirit within us!
But this world starts to take it’s toll on us. It changes our factory settings from power to weakness… from love to selfishness… from strength and discipline to timidity and fear. But here’s the deal – We weren’t created that way! We need to restore our God-given, factory settings, y’all, and step confidently into them! We were created to actively participate in His story, the greatest love story in the world!
When the world defaults our settings to fear or doubt, you can always restore to your factory settings – power, love and discipline. Fear is no excuse. God is bigger.
So, how do we do that? First of all, believe it as truth about yourself! How would your life changed if you simply decided that what God says about you is actually true? Then, in your moments of weakness, pray to God and ask Him to fill you with His strength in the moments when you just aren’t strong enough. Ask Him to fill you with His power when fear is just too strong. Ask Him to give you His discipline when you can’t go on… then watch how your life unfolds.
